Department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry

Among all the specialties of dentistry, Pediatric Dentistry is the most challenging as it demands a special understanding of multiple aspects while treating children.

We the Faculty train our students to provide Comprehensive oral health care for all children including underprivileged and special children for healthy living and to make them better citizens of tomorrow.

UNDER GRADUATE PROGRAMME

  • Theory classes are conducted on twice a week using power point
  • Students are posted in the department for one month
  • Routine chair side discussions are conducted and preventive aspects are stressed
  • Three theory examinations and three practical examinations are conducted before taking final exam.
  • House Surgeons are posted and trained for comprehensive oral health care during their one month compulsory rotatory internship

PRE CLINICAL WORK :

  • Wax Carving of Deciduous teeth
  • Cavity preparation on extracted teeth

CLINICAL WORK TO BE DONE BEFORE TAKING EXAM :

  • Detailed case history including diagnosis and treatment planning-20
  • Oral prophylaxis-10
  • Topical Fluoride application-10
  • Preparation of class II cavity-10
  • Extraction-10

TREATMENT PROVIDED ARE:

  • Counseling for both parents and children including anticipatory guidance
  • Behavior management
  • Preventive treatment including fluoride application, Pit and Fissure sealants, diet counseling
  • Oral prophylaxis and oral hygienic instructions
  • Esthetic restoration
  • Restoration of decayed teeth and pulp therapy for both primary and permanent teeth
  • Habit breaking appliances
  • Space management
  • Stainless steel crown for primary and crown for permanent teeth including post and core restoration.
  • Minor orthodontic treatment for correction of malocclusion
  • Treatment for traumatic injuries to teeth and associated structures
  • Minor oral surgical procedure
  • Treatment for special and underprivileged children.

POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMME :

Post graduation course (MDS) started in the specialty from the academic year 2010 with two seats. The Post graduation course (MDS) is recognized by Dental Council of India (DCI) and is affiliated to Sri Siddhartha University (Deemed to be university).

POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMME :

I MDS :

  • Pre clinical work.
  • Submission of synopsis for Dissertation.
  • Presentation of Basic seminars.
  • Library Dissertation.

II MDS:

  • Case history, Diagnosis and Treatment planning
  • Preventive and Restorative procedures on patients.
  • School dental health programme

III MDS:

  • Comprehensive treatment procedures including Pediatric Endodontics, Trauma Management, Preventive and Interceptive Orthodontic procedures.
  • Management of children with Special health care needs.
  • Management of Uncooperative children using Conscious sedation or General Anaesthesia.
  • Minor oral surgical procedures
  • Seminars and journal clubs
  • Submission of Dissertation
