Department of Oral Pathology & Microbiology

It is the specialty of dentistry that deals with the nature, characteristics, cause, effects and diagnosis of diseases affecting the oral and maxillofacial regions, which facilitates appropriate treatment of the same. The department also teaches other sub-specialties like Dental Anatomy, Oral Histology, Oral Embryology and Oral physiology.

Department Facilities :

  • The department is well equipped with monocular microscopes for undergraduates
  • Three Binocular (Leica) microscopes for slide demonstration and discussion.
  • Camera attachment for slide demonstration, discussion and photomicrography.
  • Paraffin embedding work-station.
  • Well equipped with various histopathologic instruments to process the biopsy tissues.
  • The department also has a museum of both hard and soft tissue specimens along with dental anatomy specimens for undergraduate students.
  • Has good collection of 35mm projection slides

Training Programme

Undergraduates

The department teaches the students of I BDS the morphology of teeth, oral histology, embryology and physiology. Carving of teeth and identification of histological slides is also taught in I BDS. This enables them to understand oral pathology better, which will be taught in the III B.D.S.

The students of III B.D.S. are taught about various diseases of oral and paraoral region. The students are taught about the pathogenesis, varied clinical manifestations, histologic appearances and clinical management of these diseases. Identification of these lesions histologically is taught in the practicals. Also lectures are taken on relevant topics for both years.
