Message from the President
GUPS aims to advances urological pathology practices and research worldwide. During the short 3 years since its founding, it has published 7 “white papers” and guidelines on prostate, bladder, kidney cancers and artificial intelligence (AI). GUPS recommendations have made significant impact on urological pathology practices worldwide, and are part of the WHO bluebook 2022. GUPS will continue to work with our clinical colleagues and researchers to address the most pressing clinical issues and questions regarding urological diseases.
GUPS is one of the prime sources for urological pathology education. Its “Case of the Week (COW)”, “Virtual slide collection”, “Educational videos” and “Literature watch” are among wide array of resources available to our members (free). “GUPS Virtual Education Series” that was launched in early 2022 has 3 exciting components. It provides practical diagnostic updates in the major GU organs. The “emerging voices” showcase newer or “less in the public eye” GU-focused pathologists. “Multidisciplinary Tumor Board” discusses, with the presence of clinical colleagues, the state of the art management of urological diseases.
Announcements
It is with greatest sadness that we share the news of the sudden passing of our dear friend and colleague, Dr. Ondrej Hes, who suffered a stroke and passed away on July 2, 2022. Ondra, as he was fondly known as, was a world-renowned pathologist, particularly known for his work on renal tumors. He was credited for the recognition of many new renal entities and subtypes. He was a strong advocate of international uropathology community and a staunch supporter of Genitourinary Pathology Society (GUPS). Ondra’s work and legacy will live on as an inspiration, a lasting memory, and an example of a life well lived. We extend our deepest condolence to his family
