To provide experiential learning opportunity in community-oriented medical education and incorporating holistic approach in community health care and research.
OBJECTIVES :- To implement the principles of competency based medical education curriculum in undergraduate and post graduate teaching.
- To emphasise role of primary care physician for preventive, promotive, curative, rehabilitative, palliative care & referral services.
- To create a skilled cadre of medical professionals having expertise in application of principles of Public Health, Community Medicine and applied epidemiology
- To develop understanding of the concept of health and disease, demography, statistics, population dynamics and disease burden in National and global context, comprehension of principles of health economics and hospital management
- To develop liaison with government bodies to understand implementation and monitoring of National Health Programmes in the primary care settings.
- To comprehend the socio-cultural and environmental factors affecting health and develop humane attitude towards the patients in discharging one's professional responsibilities.
- To develop research acumen by promoting and conducting various community-oriented research activities
1. Urban Health Training Centre :
Urban Health Training Centre is managed by department of community medicine and is situated in GMS complex Ashoka Road ,2 kms from the medical college. UHTC has OPD functioning daily with speciality services on Monday and Thursday. UHTC provides patient care service which includes basic laboratory investigations, minor surgical procedures, immunization and day care services and training of undergraduate’s students and interns.
2. Rural Health Training Centre :Rural Health Training Centre is situated in Urdegere ,20 kms from the medical college. RHTC is functional 24/7 with trained staff. OPD is functioning daily with speciality services on Tuesday and Friday. RHTC provides patient care service which includes basic laboratory investigations, minor surgical procedures, immunization, day care services, in patients services, obstetric and neonatal care. This facility is utilized for training of undergraduate students and interns.
3. Public health museum :Museum exhibits public health models, charts and posters which cover domains like nutrition, immunization, family planning, common public health problems and advances in public health. Which acts as useful resource for demonstration and training of the students. .
4. Departmental library cum seminar hall :A library with an extensive collection of books and journals related to public health and community medicine, which is used by students and faculty. The library also doubles as a seminar hall for academic discussions and presentations .
5. Research laboratory:A well-equipped laboratory with computers and instruments of public health importance, providing an ideal environment for faculty and students to conduct research in community medicine and public health.
6. Practical laboratory:A laboratory equipped to conduct public health procedures, such as water and milk analysis, for undergraduate practical classes.
7. Demonstration rooms:Demonstration rooms where teaching programs and practical classes for undergraduate students are conducted.
COMMUNITY ORIENTED ACTIVITIES :1. Family adoption programme
2. Monthly free health camp with NCD screening in FAP villages
3. IEC activities related to prevalent public health problems
4. National health days observation
5. Community oriented research activities
COLLABORATIONS :
Department has collaborations with various governmental agencies like district health office, Panchayati raj for the implementation of various activities in Tumakuru district
