Clinical Facilities
Cutting-edge clinical facilities that enhance our skills and prepare us for real-world patient care.
Siddaganga Medical College & Research Institute (SMCRI) offers a comprehensive and enriching clinical training environment that is essential for shaping future healthcare professionals. The integration of a 900-bed hospital with the medical college provides an ideal platform for hands-on experience, offering students exposure to a wide variety of medical cases and specialties. The clinical training facilities at SMCRI are designed to bridge the gap between theoretical learning and practical, real-world patient care. Here’s an overview of the clinical training facilities available for students at SMCRI:

900-Bed Hospital
The cornerstone of clinical training at SMCRI is the 900-bed hospital, which offers students the opportunity to observe and actively participate in patient care across multiple specialties, including cardiology, neurology, orthopedics, surgery, pediatrics, gynecology, oncology, and more. Students can engage in a variety of clinical scenarios, from routine check-ups to complex surgeries, under the supervision of experienced faculty and specialists. Department of Medical Education (DOME)
The Department of Medical Education (DOME) at SMCRI plays a critical role in ensuring that medical students receive structured and effective clinical training. The department focuses on curriculum development and faculty development, ensuring that the teaching staff are equipped to deliver high-quality training. Through a blend of traditional and modern teaching methodologies, DOME enhances the learning experience by preparing students for real-life clinical challenges. Clinical Skill Labs & Simulation Training The Skills & Simulation Lab at SMCRI offers Simulation-Based Medical Education (SBME), allowing students to practice and master clinical skills in a risk-free environment. Equipped with high-fidelity mannequins and advanced simulation tools, the lab helps students develop proficiency in procedures such as venipuncture, suturing, and basic life support (BLS). Simulation scenarios also include emergency care, trauma management, and surgical simulations, offering a comprehensive learning experience. Ward & Bedside Teaching
SMCRI’s hospital provides ample opportunities for bedside teaching where students directly interact with patients under the supervision of their clinical instructors. This approach helps students develop their clinical reasoning skills, improve patient communication, and learn the art of physical examination, diagnosis, and treatment planning. Students also gain experience in patient management, including follow-up care and discharge planning. Rotations Through Various Specialties
To provide students with comprehensive exposure, SMCRI offers clinical rotations across various specialties. During these rotations, students rotate through different departments such as internal medicine, pediatrics, surgery, orthopedics, OB-GYN, anesthesia, and radiology. This wide-ranging exposure helps students understand the diverse aspects of patient care and prepares them for any field of medicine they may choose to pursue in the future. Clinical Internship and Hands-On Practice
In their final year, students participate in a clinical internship that allows them to apply their medical knowledge in real-world settings. Under the mentorship of experienced clinicians, students gain hands-on experience in diagnostic procedures, treatment plans, surgical assistance, and patient care management. The internship is designed to build confidence and competence, preparing students for independent practice as they transition from students to healthcare professionals. Faculty and Mentorship Support
SMCRI is home to a team of highly experienced and dedicated faculty members who provide mentorship and guidance throughout the students' clinical training. Faculty members not only deliver lectures but also supervise students during clinical rounds, helping them navigate complex clinical cases and refine their diagnostic and decision-making skills. The faculty ensures that students receive personalized attention, feedback, and hands-on guidance throughout their clinical rotations. Specialized Clinics and Outpatient Services
Students at SMCRI benefit from working in specialized clinics and outpatient departments (OPD) where they can observe and assist in routine consultations, diagnosis, and follow-up care. The exposure to a diverse patient population in these settings enhances students' ability to recognize and manage common medical conditions, as well as rare and complex cases. Advanced Diagnostic and Therapeutic Facilities
As part of their clinical training, students have access to advanced diagnostic and therapeutic facilities, including radiology services (X-ray, CT scan, MRI), laboratories, and operation theatres. Students learn how to interpret diagnostic results and understand their clinical relevance. They also observe and assist in surgical procedures, helping them understand the intricacies of surgical care and patient management. Continuous Learning and Evaluation
SMCRI integrates a culture of continuous learning into the clinical training process. Students are evaluated regularly through OSCEs (Objective Structured Clinical Examinations), clinical assessments, and case presentations, ensuring that they are not only gaining practical experience but are also developing the theoretical knowledge necessary for effective patient care. Regular feedback and assessments from faculty help guide students’ progress and identify areas for improvement.
